As part of this year’s Student Exchange Programme, 15 students of St.Gertrudis, Ellwangen along with their teachers, Ms. Maria Herdeg and Ms. Dorte Braig, and their principal Sr. Birgit, visited Carmel Convent School during the month of November. This was the second phase of the exchange program for the year 2011.
The Germans were welcomed by our students in Carmel. They stayed with their Indian partners for a period of 2 weeks. During their stay the German students attended classes in Carmel and participated in various academic and extra- curricular activities of the school. Diwali celebrations were held in school for them, for which everyone wore beautiful saris and enjoyed watching a play staged by the students of Class 10.
Trips to Agra and Lucknow were organised during the weekends. The German students went on a tour of Delhi, which included the Indira Gandhi Memorial, the Bahai Temple and the Qutab Minar. As part of the Bosch Project, the exchange members visited TERI and IARI. The trip to Lucknow too was part of this project. The exchange students also visited NUH village, Carmel’s adopted village. The experience was very enriching and fruitful.
On the last day, the German students put together a farewell for the parents of their Indian partners. They also organised a farewell in school, which was combined with our Children’s Day program.
This exchange has strengthened our friendship with St. Gertrudis School, and Germany. We look forward to future interactions with them.
June 2011
During the month of June, 15 students of Carmel Convent School accompanied by Sr. Nirmalini and teachers Ms. Jasleen Arora and Ms. Jessie Williams, visited St. Gertrudis School, Ellwangen, Germany, as part of the ongoing Indo-German exchange program.
During their twenty one day visit the students stayed with their German counterparts. On a four day trip to Berlin,they visited many local attractions, including the German parliament building,the Opera house, the Indian Embassy and the Berlin Wall.
In the Indian Embassy, they were shown a documentary on India. Interactive sessions between the students strengthened the bonds between the two countries while the students learnt more about each other's cultures.
The Indian students showcased many presentations on various aspects of Indian life, which were well appreciated by the German students and teachers. They met the Deputy Mayor of Ellwangen and visited the Mother House at Seissen. The family excursion to Insel Atmulhsee brought the Indian students closer to their German families.
Towards the end of their stay there were farewell ceremonies where the Carmel students presented a variety of Indian dances, songs and presentations. We are all looking forward to the German students' visit to our school in November 2011, and hope to have a wonderful time with them.
October 2010
Seventeen students of St. Gertrudis School, Ellwangen, teachers Ms Maria Herdeg and Ms Irmila Ammann were welcomed by a beautiful ceremony on 30th October, 2010. As a continuation of the Indo-German exchange program it was the second time students of St. Gertrudis were in Carmel.
Since then the exchange students have been attending classes in the senior and junior school and taking part in various academic and co-curricular activities organized by the Carmelites. The students viewed presentations made by their Indian counterparts on topics such as the Harappan civilization, states of India, silk weaving and took part in various science projects. They saw how maths could be made fun when taught in the form of a poem on Geometry and a play on the surface area and volume of a cube. They even witnessed a Youth Parliament in session.
Diwali celebrations were livened up by the arrival of Sr. Birgit, principal of St. Gertrudis and the presence of the German teachers, students and their Indian partners in beautiful saris. Ramleela was staged by the students of the junior school.
The German students visited the Bahai temple, Akshardham temple, Dilli Haat, the National museum and various other tourist spots in Delhi. Trips to Jaipur and Agra were organized over the weekends.
The exchange students will remain in India till the 19th of November.

As a part of the ongoing Indo-German Student’s Exchange Program started in 2009 between Carmel Convent Delhi, and St. Gertrudis Ellwangen, Germany this year seventeen students of classes XI and XII, accompanied by the Principal Sr. Nirmalini and two teachers, Mrs Arti Malhotra and Mrs Rashmi Choudhary were in Germany as from 2nd June to 20th June 2010.

A trip to Germany on an Exchange Programme was held from 02 June to 20 June 2009, wherein ten students and two teachers of Carmel Convent school,Delhi were hosted by St. Gertrudis school, Ellwangen,Germany.It was an experience of a life time for the people involved in the inter-action. It opened windows for a peek into a different culture and way of life.

Indo Australian Exchange Programme
Ms Erin Geddess from Wavell Public School, Brisbane, Australia, was in Carmel Convent School from 13th to 19th January, 2010. Ms Geddes teaches English and Social Studies from Year VIII to XII.
After receiving a warm welcome Ms Geddess interacted with the staff and students of Carmel. She took part in various activities which included observing lessons, teaching poetry to students of class XI, attending yoga and art classes. Ms Geddes was delighted to see a flower show and an exhibition on the textiles of India put up by the students of the junior school.
During her visit in Delhi, Ms Geddess stayed with Tr. Sudha Rangarajan of Carmel Convent.
Ms Geddes in her farewell speech mentioned how immensely touched she was by the hospitality shown to her by everyone in Carmel. She showed great appreciation towards the creativity of the students, the warm student teacher relationship and the wonderful working environment of the school.

Bangkok
Sr. Nirmalini, Ms.Swati Das, Ms. Annie Mathew visited Bangkok, Thailand in August 2005 as guests of St.Joseph’s Upatham School, Baan-phuwaan. The visit was a part of a cultural exchange program. Ten faculty members of St. Joseph’s Upatham School attended classes at Carmel Convent School, Delhi for a month. The success of the exchange let to the Directors of the Archdiocese of Bangkok visiting Carmel Convent school, Delhi later in the year.
Australia
35 students and 5 staff members of Rosebay School, Sydney came to Carmel Convent School Delhi in April 2007. The visit was a great significance because the First Secretary of the Australian High Commission made a personal visit to the school to initiate the proceedings. The interaction between the students of the two schools left a deep impact upon the students. As a part of the on-going process Ms. Sudha Rangarajan visited Australia in May 2008 along with twelve teachers from various schools of Delhi.
Sri Lanka
In June 2007, 10 students of Carmel Convent School, Delhi accompanied by Sr. Julia and Ms. Prithi Shenoy visited Holy Family Convent, Sri Lanka as a part of a cultural exchange program. The entire program was a part of the India-Sri Lanka Foundation which aims at fostering bilateral relations between the two countries.
One of the projects of this Foundation is to strengthen academic links between India and Sri Lanka through student exchange programs. After preliminary talks between Sr. Nirmalini and member of the Foundation, Sr. Nirmalini visited Sri Lanka as a state guest in May 20007. In continuation of this student Exchange Programme, students from Holy Family Convent, Colombo along with their principal Sr. Chandani Jayasurya and Ms Samantha were in Delhi in August ’07. They were given a brief idea about our education system and teaching methodology. Our students gave them a glimpse of Indian culture by presenting items from various states of India.
