Farewell for the Batch of 2011 -12
On 28th January students of class 11 organized a beautiful farewell for their seniors. Elegantly dressed in saris the outgoing students were accompanied by their parents. A play showing various scenes in the life of a Carmelite, songs and dances and a short movie presented by Radha Dutta was thoroughly appreciated by the audience. Sr. Nirmalini also spoke about her experience with the outgoing batch. The students went back with memories they'd cherish forever.
Republic Day Celebrations
Carmel celebrated India's 63rd Republic day with immense enthusiasm and zeal. The new Cabinet for the year 2012-13 was inducted followed by a march-past where Shanti Party was declared the Best Marching Squad. Patriotic dances and songs presented by students of various classes instilled a sense of pride and patriotism in every Carmelite. A display of our school's athletic abilities were presented in an item directed by Tr. Rachna. Dr. Ummu Salma Bava, Professor of European Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, was the Chief Guest for the event. She was recently conferred with the Order of Merit by the German Government
Carmel Fete
Carmel hosted its annual Fete on 17th December. Mr. Kenneth Thompson, the Irish ambassador to India was the chief guest for our school's most awaited event.
The various food and games stalls put up by different classes was enjoyed by one and all. The DJ played the latest feet tapping music, and got Carmelites onto their grooves. The Ferris Wheel, Columbus, Buggy Rides, Cup and Saucers, Jumping Jack, and many others made the day memorable. The mouth-watering pizzas, chowmein, biryani and cakes added to the fun.
Sr. Nirmalini's Lucky Draw stall was the most popular cubicle. The efforts and inputs of teachers, students and workers made the occasion a success.
Middle School Annual Day
A scintillating performance by the enthusiastic students of classes 6 to 8,on 9th December'11, marked the middle school annual day of Carmel Convent.
It was a spectacular afternoon of dance and drama. "Cinderella - The Illusionist", an adaptation of Cinderella by Kenneth Lillington,was staged in two shows.
The play was an effort to get away from the humdrum of daily life and unleash one's imagination to see the grey in the black and white of the world.
The climax of the play has an unusual happiness as in fairy tales but unlike the original fairy tale, Cinderella the Illusionist follows a path peppered with guile and mischief. The play was interspersed with various dances and songs to beautify the narrative.
The success of the play was largely due to the combined contribution of Mr. Andrew Hoffland, Director and Mr.Chittarangan Nayak Choreographer
The chief guest of the first show as Mrs. Pratibha Singh, the founder partner of Singh and Singh Advocates. The second show was graced by Mrs. Swati Roy, the co-founder of Eureka, a specialist children’s bookstore. She is also the Founder Member of Bookaroo, India's first children's literature festival.
Annual Day Function for IX & X
The Annual day celebrations for classes IX and X was held on 8th Dec in the school auditorium.
In tune with the centenary year of our city, the theme of the programme was "Delhi Ek Jharokha".
The program began with a narration by the river Yamuna. She reminisced about the countless people, kings, dynasties that made Delhi their home. The powerful oration clubbed with significant power point presentations, captivated the audience.
The students showcased their talent through songs and dances from various parts of India and abroad, highlighting how Delhi is a melting pot of art and culture. A mime show on the effect of mobile phones, had everyone in splits of laughter. A short play "Unity in Diversity", a street play on "The girl child" and a vibrant fashion display were staged highlighting the essence of Delhi.
Soulful music and carols by the school choir brought in the spirit of Christmas too. The show was appreciated by one and all.

The Christmas Party is on 21-12-2011. (Wednesday). Children should come to school in their party dresses. Eats will be provided in the school.

Carmel Celebrates Institute Day
On 19th November Carmel celebrated its Institute day. On this day in the year 1870 the Apostolic Carmel was established in India.
Moreover the year 2011 has been declared the year of Mother Veronica our Founder. To commemorate both these special events a play depicting the life and works of Mother Veronica was showcased by the teachers of Carmel. The play was directed by Tr.Arti Malhotra, assisted by Sr.Tina Maria and proved to be a big success.
In order to create awareness about the life and works of Mother Veronica various events had been organized over the course of the month.
Poster making competition: The beautiful posters based on our Founder’s life were showcased on the main school board.
Quizzes were conducted in all classes.
During the morning assembly excerpts from the life of Mother Veronica were read out.
Children’s Day Celebrations
Children’Day was celebrated with the usual enthusiasm and joy. Carmel teachers put up an enthralling program of song and dance for their beloved students. The program included a Lavni dance, aerobics , bollywood numbers and a fashion show on the costumes of the North East.
This year Children’s Day celebrations coincided with the farewell of the German exchange program students and teachers of St. Gertrudis,Ellwangen. The German students too put up a lovely program for their Indian friends. Songs, ribbon dances and word games were performed by them.
Ice-creams were distributed at the end of the day making the children feel even more special.
Diwali Celebrations in Carmel
On 24th October, Carmel celebrated Diwali - the festival of lights. Students of class 10 put up an assembly that depicted Diwali celebrations in multi-cultural hues, showcasing the diversity that unites India.The programme also showed how various other festivals are celebrated around this time in different parts of the country. The assembly ended with students enacting the age old favourite - Lord Ram, Laxman, Sita and their devotee Hanuman coming on stage to depict the triumph of good over evil. Carmelites promised to celebrate a ' Cracker-free'Diwali this year too.
Annual Day for classes III, IV and V
On the occasion of the completion of 100 years of Delhi as the National Capital, classes III, IV and V put up a show - 'Delhi Saga showcasing the history and cultural background of Delhi. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Satarupa Choudhary.

Primary School Celebrates Annual Day
On 21st October, classes I and II celebrated their annual day. Parents were received warmly and were treated with a mellifluous welcome song. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Anupa Gupta. Mrs. Gupta is an ex-Carmelite and is presently a renowned child counselor. The school Principal, Sr. Nirmalini warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and apprised the parents about the various activities that have been recently introduced alongside time-tested traditional methods of primary education.
’Fantasy Land’, a bouquet of musical compositions and nursery rhymes, followed by a presentation on the Development of Delhi over the years by class II children charmed the audience.
Later, a play on ’The Ugly Duckling’, and also a beautifully choreographed flower dance performance by children of class I entertained the audience. Ballet Dances, Angels and Devils Act, also delighted and amused the parents and gave the kids an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The function got concluded with a motivational and informative speech by the Chief Guest touching on various aspects of effective child management and their upbringing.

Poster Making Competition in Memory of our Founder Mother Veronica of the Passion
The school is organizing a poster making competition based on the memory of Mother Mary Veronica.
Those wishing to participate in the competition will have to make a poster or collage. The poster could represent a single or a series of significant events from the life of Mother Veronica.Students can refer to books given in the library or look up the PowerPoint presentation posted below:
The competition will be conducted in two groups.
Group I Classes 6 to 8.
Group II Classes 9 to 12.
Posters have to be submitted to Tr.Suchanda.
It can be made in any medium - print or paint.
The results of the competition will be announced on 19th November 2011.
The top 2 entries will be awarded Rs. 1000/- each.
Carmel celebrates Sr. Nirmalini's Feast
On 7th October, 2011, Carmel Convent School celebrated the feast of Sr. Nirmalini.A special assembly was organised by the students on this special occassion. Kaavya of class XI - B performed a prayer dance wishing long life and happiness to our dearest principal, which was followed by a dance by the students of class VII. A speech was given by Tanvi Bhatia wishing Sr. Nirmalini on her birthday on behalf of the students and staff. The adorable tiny tots of the Primary school sang a song showering God's choicest blessing on their dear principal. The assembly was concluded by a melodious song by the members of the HMM. The students emoted their love and appreciation for our beloved principal by gifting her handmade cards and exquisite bouquets.
Carmel hosts Baawra Mann...A Confluence of New & Old
"Baawra Mann A Confluence of New and Old", a musical program was hosted by Carmel Convent School on Saturday 12th September 2011 in the school auditorium. Guided by the spirit of our founder Mother Veronica this is part of Carmel's mission to educate, empower and facilitate a more inclusive education of the underprivileged girl child.The proceeds of the event were donated towards the cause
The musical journey through 1960 to 2010 was presented by Carmel alumnus Aditi Subramaniam together with Dr. N. Subramaniam and Dr. K. Lalitha of Apollo Hospital. Aditi was the Head Girl of Carmel and the President of the school musical society. She is currently in the 3rd year of LLB, at Merton College, University of Oxford, UK. During the three hour show the singers kept the audience mesmerized with their musical virtuosity and wide repertoire ranging from Indian classical, Sufi to Hindi film music.
Teacher's Day Celebrations
Teacher' Day was celebrated in Carmel with its usual spirit of gaiety. The day began with a special assembly put up by the students for their beloved principal and teachers. Skits by the students of class XII, dances by the students of the junior and middle school, songs by the HMM and Tarana group were all part of the hugely entertaining show. The children showed their appreciation and love by presenting their teachers with flowers and cards.
Later mass was offered by Father Dominic Emmanuel, followed by a lunch for the teachers on their special day.

Football zonals
Our football team stood third in the football zonals held at Modern Barakhamba School on 5th August 2011, after winning against Sardar Patel by a score of 2-0. The goals were scored by Carolyn William (right forward) of class VIII and Arushi Nayar(Captain and centre forward). Seven of our players have been selected for the Inter Zonal camp.
Quintessence 2011
Carmel Convent School, Chanakya Puri, recently celebrated its Founders Day on July 16th 2011. To commemorate this grand occasion, an eight day long event,QUINTESSENCE 2011 was held which saw the participation of various schools across Delhi.
The cultural activities debuted with the English Debate. The participating schools fought it out by debating on the topic, As Flies are to Wanton Boys So are we to the Gods, They Kill Us for Their Sports. The elaborated discussion and debate saw DPS (R.K. Puram) take home the Rolling Trophy. The next day, various contesting schools had a chance to let their Psychology students shine via a street play. The energetic and socially aware children set up educational plays highlighting the Role of Women in our Indian Society.
In the Shutterbug competition the contesting schools received a particular topic through which they had to click their way to victory. The popular Book Discussion event had the Nobel and Booker prize winning DISGRACE by J.M. Coetzee as the topic of discussion. Carmelite Vidisha Devnath took home the First Best Speaker prize, and DPS (R.K. Puram) was handed the winning trophy. The high point of the event was the Interschool Dramatics Competition, which brought the Quintessence 2011 to a successful close. The schools presented their plays with the topic, Who is the Fairest of Them All. Carmel Convent took the trophy for Second Best Actor Chanda Dhavan. DPS (R.K. Puram) took home the Rolling Trophy, for a hilarious take on a set of popular fairytales.
The Middle School students showed off their culinary expertise in the Little Chef competition. As the judges left with satisfied stomachs, their ears met glory at the Choir Singing competition, where the juniors filled the room with their melodious voices and beautiful songs. Finally the pre-primary children showed off their swag while portraying their favorite fantasy character, in the Character Portrayal contest.
Alongside all these events, Carmel's computer students also shone through in the computer activities. The senior school students took home the winning trophy for the Graphic Designing competition. The middle school students of various schools demonstrated their remarkable designing skills in the Web Designing activity. Amidst all these computer activities, how could the Junior School students be far behind? They gave a strong competition to each other in Explorer.com. The Carmel team stood grabbed the first prize in the competition
The Quintessence 2011 proved to be a success for Carmel Convent School, an amazing experience for all the participants, and a festive occasion for all the students and staff of the school.

Carmel Feast Celebrations
On 15th July, the feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated with much joy and happiness. An assembly was put up by the junior school, where students of class IV and V enacted the birth and life of Jesus and Mother Mary. A small prayer dance was also performed.
About 84 Catholic students from classes III to V gathered together for Sunbeam,an event whose purpose is to scatter the love of Jesus by becoming beautiful through the soul, for Jesus and all the people around. The participants were given badges and handed a booklet with hymns and songs.
Carmel bids farewell to Ms Anupa Teluja and Ms Rashmi Upamanyu
14th May was not only the last working day before the summer holidays but also the day when we bid farewell to Tr. Anupa Teluja and Tr. Rashmi Upamanyu.
Ms Teluja had a joined Carmel in 1984 as the senior biology teacher and after a long stint of twenty seven years she has opted to resign due to health reasons. One of our most respected teachers, Anupa had endeared herself to everyone with her mastery of her subject, her jovial nature and helpful attitude.
Ms. Rashmi Upamanyu taught in Carmel for nearly five years as a Chemistry teacher. In this short time she left a mark due to her humane approach and devotion to her students.
A morning assembly was held where both the teachers were bid a warm farewell by the students. Later the farewell organized by the staff members proved to be an emotional one too.
We shall miss both of them and wish them God’s abundant blessings.
Earth Day Celebrations
On the occasion of Earth Day, students and teachers of Carmel Convent School actively participated in an Awareness Campaign. They marched in the area around the school for a cause. Students also cleaned the footpaths running alongside the roads. A Signature Campaign was also held, where the students got signatures of the people walking on the roads. Environment Club members conducted the morning assembly on Earth Day, sensitizing the students on major issues that pose a threat to the environment today. A Rangoli Competition was also held. Students had to make designs using waste material depicting the significance of Earth Day. Full of zeal and initiative the students did their little bit in increasing awareness in the neighbourhood addressing environmental issues facing our communities.

'Carmel Expressions' Reunion
’Carmel Expressions’ held a grand reunion, ’Rendezvous’, on the 16th of April, 2011 in the school auditorium celebrating its completion of 10 glorious years. The occasion was graced by Sr. Nirmalini, Sr. Theophila, Sr. Veronica and Sr. Julia. The teachers of the Editorial committee along with members of the current editorial board played a pivotal role in organizing the event. An invocation dance was presented by the head girl, Shreya Gupta. A Power Point presentation highlighted the various facets of magazines of the last 10 years.
A quiz pertaining to magazine affairs made the event very lively. Later, one member from each batch shared her experience while working for the magazine. Most of them were nostalgic while narrating their experiences. Sr. Nirmalini, teachers Arti Malhotra and Kalpana Naik also spoke on the occasion.
The programme included a skit ’Good Times’ showcasing the fun as well as the toil that goes into the making of a magazine. A group dance depicting gaiety added colour and zest to the evening. After a light refreshment and a group photograph, the evening came to an end with each member of C.E. being presented with a memento. Everyone truly enjoyed themselves and were reminiscent of the ’Good Times’ they had had in the memory lane of the years gone by.

Book Week
Carmel Convent School organized a Book Week in order to inculcate reading habits in the students of the school and explore the wonderful world of books. It also gave a boost to their writing and vocabulary skills.
Renowned authors and reputed people from educational organizations gave a talk on the essence of reading and writing, encouraged many aspiring writers and organized activities for the Junior School students. Authors like Giti Chandra, Subhadra Sen Gupta, Anupa Lal visited the school where they not only talked about their books but also answered the various queries of the students.
An activity for students of Classes 3rd, 4th and 5thwas held by the Campfire Team where they drew the characters of The Wizard of Oz. On the last day of the Book Week a different kind of activity was held where every single person on the campus had to read a piece of any kind of article for half an hour. This unique activity marked the end of a successful and fruitful Book Week.

Orientation Program for parents of KG class
An orientation program was conducted for the parents of K.G. class on 5th April ’11 in the school auditorium. Ms Priti Sarin Dhawan, Asst professor of Psychology at Lady Shriram College and an alumni of Carmel addressed the gathering on the Psychology of Schooling.
Ms Dhawan discussed parenting skills and emphasized the importance of forming the right habits and inculcating the right values at the primary level itself. She asked the parents to work hand in hand with the school towards the holistic development of their children, so that they grew up to be independent and self sufficient.
Orientation Program for parents of students of class XII and classes I to V
An orientation program was conducted for the parents of students of class XII in the school auditorium. Sr. Nirmalini initiated the session and in her talk encouraged the parents to be particular about the regular attendance of the children to school. She asked the parents to ensure that the students came in proper uniform and to be vigilant about the school exams and distribution of answer papers.
A prayer dance by Annapoorni and Taisha of class XII was followed by an interactive session by Dr.Vishal Chhabra consultant psychiatrist,VIMHANS on substance abuse. In his talk Dr. Vishal Chhabra primarily focused on solvents used on a regular basis by teenagers such as whitener fluid, nail polish remover. He advised the parents to be more communicative with their children but at the same draw a line where required. Parents in turn shared their concerns about raising adolescents in the present environment.
The orientation for the parents of the students of classes I to V was conducted in the primary school. The primary school teachers interacted with the parents and discussed issues such as the newly implemented CCE system of evaluation, teaching methodology to be followed for different subjects, health and hygiene of the students, discipline etc.
Prayer Meeting for Staff Members
An inter-religious prayer meeting was organized in the school auditorium on 17th April for all staff members . Three distinguished speakers - Dr. Mrs Amrit Basra, Professor of History, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), Mrs Amrita Kanta, a volunteer preacher of ISCON and Fr. Dominic Emmanuel SVD, spokesperson of Delhi Catholic Archdiocese shared their idealogies on the occssion.
Dr. Amrit Basra spoke on several aspects of the Sikh religion and answered queries regarding the Guru Granth Sahib.
Mrs Amrita Kanta gave a discourse on the practical application of the Bhagwad Gita in our daily lives. She emphasized that reading of the Gita helps one to release stress, improve efficiency and maintain a better relationship with others.
Fr. D. Emmanuel requested everyone to observe a minutes silence for the victims of the Tsunami in Japan. He stressed on the importance of charity and helping others.

Cancer Walk
On 6th Feb, a large contingent of 150 Carmelites inclusive of students, 15 teachers participated in a Walk against Cancer which started from the Navy Childrens' School and then proceeded along the Sarojini Market area. The objective of the Walk was to spread awareness about Childhood Cancer. Our Principal Sr. Nirmalini, who is a constant source of encouragement was also present.
Inter-school Dramatics Competition of Class X
An awe inspiring display of talent and hardwork characterised the inter school dramatics competition of Class X on February 5, 2011 in our school auditorium.
Class X - A acted out the Shakespearean comedy "As you like it". X - B gave their best efforts for an Edwardian Drawing room comedy - "Cantaloupe Crescent" and X - C did Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion".
In this sincere exhibit of histrionics, class X - B won. All the three plays had beautiful arrangement of stage props and some interseting dance forms, interspersed with the narrative. Class X - B stood out due to their unique concept and dazzling dances. The students were ecstatic with the fruits of their efforts.
Republic Day Celebrations and Investiture Ceremony 2011
Carmel celebrated India’s 62nd Republic Day on 25th Jan 2011. Ms Krishna A. Mishra, Addl Director General in the Directorate General of Central Customs and Excise, New Delhi graced the occasion as the chief guest. The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by the investiture ceremony and the march past, in which Satya (Red) Party was judged as the best team. In her address to the newly emphasized cabinet the chief guest spoke on the importance of inculcating leadership qualities, emphasizing that a good leader is one who is committed and able to shoulder the responsibilities of her team. She also encouraged the students to put in hard work and not look for shortcuts to success. Patriotic songs were sung by the HMM group and Tarana and Synergy dance club put up a spectacular performance.

Carmel Fete
Carmel hosted its annual Fete on 11th December. Ms Dina Ralte,a Carmel alumni, one of the co-founders of Carmel’s western music group Heavy Musical Melodies (the HMM group) was the chief guest. She is currently the director of the Parikrama school of Music, Delhi.
There were a large number of food and games stalls put up by the various classes. The lively music played by the DJ at the request stall got Carmelites onto the dance floor. The Ferris Wheel and the Columbus turned out to be the favorite rides while chicken biryani, pizzas and spring roles sold like hot cakes.
A surprise event was the brilliant performance by the school band christened "28 days". Under the guidance of Sir Ashwini the band has come a long way since its inception and held the audience spellbound with their rendition of "That thing you do" by the Wonders and "Lips of An Angel" by Hinder.

Mr. Rajesh Kumar Rattan ( 11.7.1959 - 24.11.2010)
Mr. Rajesh Kumar Rattan, sports instructor, passed away after a brief illness. He had joined in the year 2002. Since then he provided Carmel with 8 years of devoted and dedicated service. He was a gentle, kind hearted and helpful man, easiy approachable to all. Mr. Rajesh was an indispensable part of the Carmel family and his absence will be felt deeply. May God grant his soul eternal peace.
Teacher's Day Celebrations
Teacher's Day in Carmel was fun-filled both for students and teachers. The day began with a prayer service conducted by Father Dominic. He emphasized the role of teachers in shaping the lives of students and also spoke about the life of Mother Teresa. This was followed by an assembly conducted by the students of the middle and senior school. Songs, dances, riddles and games kept the teachers entertained. At the end of the day the teachers were treated to a sumptuous lunch organized by the PTA.
Workshop on Adobe Photoshop
A workshop on Adobe Photoshop was organized by the Oracle Computer Club on 28th and 29th September in collaboration with Raygain Technologies Pvt Ltd. Thirty students from classes 7 to 11 attending the workshop were trained by professionals in the senior computer lab. Students were given handouts and awarded certificates. The workshop was extremely sucessful and the Oracle club plans to hold many such workshops in the future.
Musical Performance by the students of Jeevan Jyoti Blind School, Varanasi
Students of Jeevan Jyoti, Varanasi Blind School put up a spectacular performance on the school grounds. Their amazing coordination, sense of rhythm and synchronization left our students awestruck. An important lesson that the students learnt from the experience was to make the best of what life offered to each person. The staff and students gave a generous contribution of Rs.50,000/- to the Blind School.
Sr. Nirmalini honoured
On the occasion of the birth centenary of Mother Teresa, our Principal Sr. Nirmalini was honored for her active involvement and contribution in working for the upliftment of the poor.
This citation was awarded by the the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, Catholic Relief, the Indo Global Social Service Society, Caritas India and the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese
Independence Day Celebrations
Carmel celebrated India's 64th Independence Day with a spectacular program comprising of the flag hoisting ceremony, march past by the students and taking the pledge. The air was filled with patriotic songs like Vande Mataram and colourful dances were performed by students. Ms Kahlon, who retired recently after a long tenure at Carmel, graced the event as the Chief Guest. She encouraged all the students to participate in the development of their country by making positive contributions starting at the grass level. She also released this year's issue of the school magazine by the Carmel Expressions. The theme of the magazine was Youth Empowerment.
Carmel Celebrates the Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel
On 15th July, Carmel Feast Day was celebrated in the school with a lot of zeal and zest. A skit staged by the students of the Junior school reinforced the Carmel values passed down by our Foundress Mother Veronica. On 16th July a mass conducted by Fr. Francis Gonsalves, Principal of Vidyajyoti College of Theology, Delhi, was held in the school auditorium for students and teachers.
Scholastic Book Week
Scholastic India has organized a Book Week on the Carmel campus from 26th April to 1st May. The Book Week encourages students to inculcate good reading habits and rediscover the wonderful world of books. Carmel Celebrates Earth Day
Carmel Celebrated Earth Day by hoisting a number of activities
The day began with the taking of a pledge by each class, promising to do their best to Recycle, Reuse and Reduce Resources.
A painting competition was held for classes III to VIII. The topic was Clean Yamuna.
A singing competition was conducted by the Environment Club for the middle school.
Pottery making classes were conducted.

Orientation Program for parents of Class VI.
An Orientation program was conducted for the parents
of class VI. The parents were introduced to CBSEs new Comprehensive
Continuous Evaluation (CCE) pattern of grading which was to be implemented
for all classes from VI to X in the new session
Alumni Meet by CASA.
An alumni meet was conducted by CASA in the school auditorium. Sister Nirmalini presided the meet. Ex-Carmelites from various batches got together to exchange memories, play a game of tambola and enjoy some delicious snacks. Teacher Preeti Shenoy, Arti Malhotra and Suchanda Sen were also present
Orientation Program for parents of KG children
An Orientation program was conducted for the parents of KG students who have just stepped into the portals of Carmel Convent School. The session focused upon orienting the parents towards separation anxiety which many children suffer from when they step into the school for the first time, trust and confidence
